Athlete of the Week Max Slater

Max Slater from Trenton High School Cross Country has been selected as Athlete of the Week. Slater, who is in his second year in cross country, has run in every meet for the Tigers this year.

Slater, who was torn between playing football or cross country, has made a name for himself this season as he continues to improve every race. His goal this season was to push through the season and Slater has done that and more.

The sophomore in his first meet of the season placed 24th in a competitive race. On September 12, Slater competed in the North West Conference in Stanley. In the meet, Slater set a new personal record with a time of 21:13.9.

Head Coach of Trenton Cross Country Samantha Shields couldn't be more proud of the effort Slater has put in this season.

"I have seen him put in countless miles and exceptional effort. He’s been our team captain from the beginning and continues to show great leadership. He has a relentless determination to make himself and his teammates better. He is always eager to put in the work and we are all seeing the results. His commitment to the sport and unwavering work ethic do not go unnoticed. I have never heard a complaint or negative response come from him. He is always willing to put in the extra mile or an extra interval in a workout. Each practice I can see he is wanting to get better and that’s every coach's dream for an athlete." Shields said.

Congratulations on being named Athlete of the Week. Best of luck with the rest of the season!
